Welcome to the Society of Friends and Supporters of the Arithmeum
The Society of Friends and Supporters of the Arithmeum is dedicated to providing sustainable support for the scientific and cultural work of the Arithmeum in Bonn.
Founded in 1999 by Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. Bernhard Korte, the Arithmeum uniquely combines mathematics, art, and design. Within its light-filled architecture, this cultural gem presents the world’s most comprehensive collection on the history of mechanical computation, an exquisite and nearly unparalleled collection of geometrically constructive art in the German-speaking world, and, through the ArithmeumLibrary, one of the most significant holdings worldwide of historical prints and manuscripts on calculation and early mathematics.
History and Goals
The Society of Friends and Supporters of the Arithmeum was established in 2025 to strengthen the Arithmeum as a unique meeting place for mathematics, art, and culture. Our aim is to enhance the museum’s visibility as an institution of international cultural and scientific significance and to establish it as a vibrant center of education and cultural exchange.
By founding the Society, we created a platform that enables diverse forms of support – whether through funding special exhibitions and educational programs or contributing to the expansion of the museum’s impressive collections. The Society serves as a bridge between the museum and an engaged community of supporters, united by a shared commitment to the
Arithmeum’s mission. We warmly invite all interested individuals to join this initiative and actively help shape the future of the Arithmeum. Whether as a member, donor or patron – every form of support contributes to keeping the museum vibrant and advancing its educational and cultural work.
In the coming years, we aim to implement numerous projects, from providing moral and material support for the museum to hosting events that firmly establish the Arithmeum as a hub for scientific and cultural exchange. Together, we preserve the Arithmeum as an inspiring center for learning and culture for future generations.
Projects
Our mission is to strengthen the scientific and cultural significance of the Arithmeum, promote innovative projects, and make the intersection of mathematics, art, and culture tangible.
To this end, we support the museum by providing funding, exhibits, and materials that enable it to fully carry out its educational and cultural mandate. Planned initiatives includesponsoring of special exhibitions that creatively link mathematics and design, offering educational programs and workshops for children and adults, supporting the concerto discreto concert series, and preserving and expanding the museum’s outstanding collections.
Exclusive cultural events and activities for members further strengthen the Society’s community and make individual contributions tangible. Through these activities, we aim to introduce our members to the thematic diversity of the Arithmeum and deepen their personal connection to the museum.
